HELP ENSURE AN EDUCATION

ABOUT THE PROJECTS

THE CHILDREN OF THE FUTURE

Help ensure the continued education of 565 fantastic children in Tanzania and give them a future.

There are 565 school children spread across infant and junior school classes. The school children come from different social levels in the nearby community. Some children have European sponsor families; others are children of the local Masai families, who have put all of their savings into one of their children in the hope of an education and thereby future economic stability. The children love their school time and every day is filled with songs and happiness, because they know that they have been given a very special gift, one which their friends and siblings probably don’t have. It also means that these children have a great responsibility on their shoulders.

NEW AMBITIOUS PROJECT

A NEW SCHOOL ON THE DRAWING BOARD

The foundation’s biggest project is to build a Secondary School.

The site has been purchased and a budget and the construction plans for the project have been made. It is estimated that the project will take 1 year to complete. The Secondary School building will cost 2,4 MIO DKK (322,000€). The committee members of the foundation are currently applying for funds and legacies for this fantastic and ambitious new project which will ensure more than 500 pupils a future. Without completion of a Secondary School education, the children are unable to apply for a university education and in turn will be unable to provide for their families. A Secondary School will also create more jobs for the local population; both for teaching staff and for service staff.

All collected funds and monies will be transferred without deductions to the school (except the bank transfer fee).

COMPLETED PROJECTS 2019

During the spring, we were able to raise enough funds together with our members to finance an automatic tile machine. The tiles will help reduce the amount of dust in the school grounds and children’s home. Two men from the local area were trained in the use of the machine and how to lay the tiles.

In the summer of 2019, the foundation collected enough funds to finance a copy machine for the school. This piece of equipment means that educational material no longer needs to be hand-written for each pupil. The copy machine was presented to the school at the Festival of Honour for Katja’s dedication.

ACTIVE PROJECTS in 2019

We wish to expand our farm. The intention is to build a barn and to purchase two cows. The cows will provide milk for the school children and children’s home. We unfortunately lost our cow last year, when it was calving.

We are also making expansion plans for the Primary School to reduce the number of children sitting in each classroom. Presently, there are 60 children in each class. The children’s ability to learn would increase if they were divided into A and B classes. As there is limited ground space, the new classrooms will be built above the existing classrooms, which have extra structural strength for this very purpose, allowing for the school’s capacity to increase in this way and making our project possible.

COMPLETED PROJECTS 2018

We succeeded in raising enough funds with our members to establish a chicken farm. A barn was constructed and 500 chicks and 500 hens were purchased. The chickens provide food for the pupils at the school and the children’s home as well as being sold at the local market. Thank you for your generosity!

PROJECTS IN 2017

The foundation received a generous donation of 140.000 DKK from “Lærerstandens Brandforsikring”! We were so grateful for this donation which meant that the construction of 3 new classrooms started in July 2017. Apart from being able to offer 150 new pupils a school education, more staff were employed in the classroom and in the school kitchen. All of the construction work was done by local entrepreneurs and took just 8 weeks from start to finish. Impressive! The new building project provided work for many families in the local society. We also managed to raise another 24.000 DKK for school desks, chairs and blackboards for the 3 new classrooms.

COMPLETED PROJECTS IN 2017

We received 4.300 DKK from ”Byens Dyreklinik” (Town Vet) in Nakskov, 6.440 DKK from the Soroptimists Lolland, meaning that we could expand our farm with more stalls and 6 new pigs were purchased. The pigs will hopefully multiply for sale on the local market. The money from the sale of the pigs will go to the children’s home. By summer 2017, there were already 40 pigs!
